Back in 2018, we had this brilliant idea for a physics-based puzzle game. As perfectionists, it took us a whole five years to develop this idea into something we were truly happy with. We went through so many different evolutions of the game, it was like watching a caterpillar turn into a butterfly.
INSPIRATION BEHIND THE DESIGN
INITIAL INSPIRATION
As we set out to create Solve & Roll, we were inspired by the many incredible puzzle games that exist out there. However, our ultimate goal was to craft a unique masterpiece that could truly stand on its own. While we drew inspiration from other games, we made a conscious effort to ensure that our creation was truly one-of-a-kind. It was the work of a young, self-taught mobile game developer that first sparked our inspiration. From that initial spark, our idea evolved into the game that we're thrilled to present to you today.
THE ART STYLE
The design of the game was heavily influenced by our all-time favourite TV show, MasterChef. We binge-watched the show and picked up a ton of tips on design, execution, and presentation. And the most important lesson we learned? KISS - Keep It Simple, Stupid! As the saying goes, "Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication." So we made sure to keep our game design simple, elegant, and user-friendly. Now, let's hope our game is a hit with gamers - and not just with Gordon Ramsay!
THE GAMEPLAY
Creating our own physics-based puzzle game was an exciting endeavor, as we recognized the enjoyable and challenging nature of such games on mobile devices. The physics engine adds an extra layer of realism and unpredictability to the gameplay, making each puzzle feel unique and exciting. Plus, the touchscreen controls make it easy to manipulate objects and experiment with different solutions. Overall, physics-based puzzle games offer a satisfying and immersive gaming experience that can keep you entertained for hours on end.
After conducting market research, we discovered an interesting trend in the App Store. A large number of physics-based puzzle games require drawing. But, we're pleased to introduce Solve & Roll, an engaging physics-based brain game that doesn't require drawing skills. This game is an excellent alternative for those who find it challenging to draw. For players who struggle with creative drawing skills, solving puzzles in drawing-based games can be a difficult and frustrating task, hindering their ability to find clever and satisfying solutions to enjoy.
When we created Solve & Roll, our goal was to provide puzzle enthusiasts with an unforgettable puzzle-solving experience. We put in a lot of effort to create puzzle challenges that are truly one-of-a-kind. You'll tackle a variety of physics-based puzzles, including tasks like constructing bridges, achieving balance with towering structures, creating ramps and loops, and even building catapults and slides!
Solve & Roll presents a fresh and imaginative approach to puzzle-solving, setting itself apart from other options currently available on the platform. Solve & Roll provides a unique gameplay experience by breaking away from traditional drawing-based mechanics. Rather than drawing to solve puzzles, players will utilize an array of shapes. Players interact directly with the shapes. They can easily drag, rotate, and place them freely anywhere they like on the screen in an effort to find solutions.
Coming up with clever solutions in drawing-based puzzle games often requires a great deal of accuracy and creative drawing ability. This can be especially hard to pull off for those of us who do not own or have a stylus pen to hand, and especially tricky for those of us that have larger fingers. We understand that drawing-based games can be frustrating for many players, and we have taken that feedback into account to create a game that aims to do physics-based puzzles better. Solve & Roll was designed with larger shapes and a controls feature that allows players to offset shapes from under their fingers, ensuring clear visibility when interacting with them, even on smaller devices.
Based on research and personal experiences, it has been found that some drawing-based puzzle games can have repetitive and unsatisfying solutions that can be easily solved with just a few simple lines. The multiple-solution approach can sometimes lead to a lack of creativity and satisfaction for players who are looking for a more challenging and rewarding experience. However, Solve & Roll is different as every puzzle has been meticulously designed to have a single, correct solution, providing a fair and stimulating challenge that encourages players to put their problem-solving abilities to the test.
We sincerely hope that Solve & Roll will be well received by puzzle fans and that our hard work and dedication shines through in every puzzle they solve.
